Giacomo Emanuele – The Interview

Introducing: Giacomo Emanuele, a beekeeper who lives and operates in Galati Mamertino, on the Nebrodi mountains. Giacomo belongs to a handful of sicilian beekeepers who managed to save a pure breed of sicilian black bee. This unique insect is an indigenous ecotype, genetically superior to most european species of bees, having emerged as the result of natural selection in Sicily’s harsh and variable climatic conditions. Thanks to Giacomo and his colleagues and to the recognition of the honey as a Slow Food Presidium, the black bee survives and continues to perform his function as one of the island’s most effective pollinators.
